Part Two – What Happens During the Site Build Out

Whew – you’ve done the work and not it’s time to get creating!

We here at FUSION love to work in WordPress using Genesis and a Child Theme – this allows our web design team a lot of flexibility on the look & feel of a website without all of the hassle of creating a lot of special coding – and the Themes that we use are easily customized using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) for all of the fancy tables and other formatting!

1. When you are designing your site it is highly suggested that you keep the look & feel consistent and simple. This means that when your visitors (aka client or potential client) clicks on the different pages and links that you have – they should have the feeling that they are still on the same site – otherwise they could be confused and not stay on your site or even want to do business with you!

    • Keep your colors – your branding the same on all pages
    • Keep your fonts the same and make sure that they are easy to read
    • Make sure that the reader is seeing the ‘Offer’ – we suggest that you have that at the top (above the fold) and to the right – that is where the ‘eye’ naturally goes
    • Try to keep your site to 5 – 7 pages – anything more could lead to overwhelm for the visitor

2. Images – When you post images & photos – make sure that they are the correct size for page loading. If you don’t then your visitor might not want to wait for the image to load and just click away!

    • Images should be either a JPG or GIF format
    • The best size is to keep them about 50KB or smaller
    • The very best images for the web are at 72dpi – this allows quick download and rendering
    • Make sure that you have the images tagged for SEO purposes

3. White Space – this is a great way to keep your site clean and helps the visitor stay focused on your content and not on loads of other distractions! Less is really more on a website – after all we want the visitor to want to join your list and become a loyal customer!

4. Testimonials – Client Raves! There are several ways to optimize this and the choice is yours. Our suggestions are to:

    • FUSION’s Rave Reviews as an example of how to showcase testimonials
    • Have a Testimonial page with photos and caption
    • Add video if you can and/or an audio file
    • You can add (and it’s suggested that you do this) testimonials throughout the site – and on specific page sidebars too

5. About US Page – this is a great way to personalize you and your team (if you have a team) Here’s our ABOUT US TEAM Page – make sure that you add photos and some fun things about who you are . . . and don’t make it just a ‘resume’ page – you can do the more formal format on your Media Page.

6. Your website is your Store Front – so make sure that it reflects you and your brand. Find some sites that you like the flow, look, feel, etc. and then create your own ‘brand’. Make sure that you do invest in your site as this shows your visitors that you are a professional and take pride in your business – after all you have only a small amount of time to connect with a new visitor and of course you want to make a lasting impression on them – making a memorial impression (in a good way) will set you apart from your competition!

7. Contact US Page – you should have a page that gives out contact information such as your business email address link – to avoid spam it is advisable to not use actual email address (additionally don’t use you gmail or Yahoo mail – use a business email such as customercare@ or info@ The best way to design a Contact US Page is to use a Contact Form – this will allow you to collect additional information that you might not otherwise have gathered and you can also have a space for suggestions and comments – this is a great way to engage your visitor too! 8. Lastly – always have Call To Action buttons or a way that your visitor can sign up for the Free Offer! I know that this might sound a bit odd – but you have to really lead the visitor to TAKE ACTION . . . such as ‘Click HERE to xxxx’ . . . ‘Don’t Forget to Sign Up HERE’, etc. . . . this works for everything that you want to have your visitor interact with . . . sign-ups, free offers, suggestions, etc.
